The AOUG Foundation for Education
The AOUG Foundation for Education is a registered charity set up by the AOUG for the purpose of supporting the Open University by granting awards for students both nationally and in the regions. The Foundation aims to "Advance education by making grants to Open University graduates to assist them to undertake post graduate research projects and to publish the useful results of such research". The charity is funded by members' donations, covenants, legacies, gift aid and finally interest from our savings. We are always looking for ways in which to continue to fund our charity. If you can help please contact us.
National Awards
AOUG National awards are given annually to research students who can only be nominated by their Dean of Faculty. The AOUG committee select the candidate, and students receive their awards at Walton Hall.
The seven awards are named after people whom have played a significant role in the development of the Open University, and are offered to each faculty of the Open University.
The AOUG John Horlock Award for Science
The AOUG Baroness Lee of Asheridge Award for Technology
The AOUG Asa Briggs Award for the Arts
The AOUG The Walter Perry Award for Social Science
The AOUG Jubilee Award for Mathematics and Computing
The AOUG Sir John Daniel Award for Education and Language Studies
The AOUG Baroness Boothroyd Award for Law
Regional Awards
The AOUG offers awards to those graduates across the country who have gained their degrees by overcoming extra difficulties. The Open University Regional Directors assist in the selection process and the awards are presented in their home region.
The Bursary
The AOUG offers a Bursary to assist an Open University student in their final year of their PhD.
The previous winner was Helen Craggs in 2006. If a Bursary is available the process starts by application to the AOUG.
