Visit to Chelmsford Museum, Region 06
July 21 @ 11:30 am - 4:00 pm
Chelmsford, Essex visit, themed on the BBC and Marconi broadcasting centenaries. Meet at the Hive cafe, Chelmsford Museum, Oaklands Park, Moulsham Street, Chelmsford CM2 9AQ for coffee and/or lunch, before looking round the Museum, in particular Marconi/broadcasting exhibits. It is then suggested that we walk down Moulsham Street, pausing to view the 1898 World’s First Radio Factory building in nearby Hall Street, then continue through the city centre viewing various places of interest and historical displays, to reach the successor 1912 Marconi site and Anglia Ruskin University campus in New Street. Please note that it is estimated that the overall walk will be about 1.5 miles; hopefully this is acceptable to most of those attending. Chelmsford is on the main Greater Anglia, London Liverpool Street to Norwich rail line with a frequent service and local buses to near the museum via New London Road; it is also served by express Firstbus services from Southend (X30) and Stansted Airport (X30 or X10), as well as other local routes.
