Eling Tide Mill 24, Lexby Road, Totton

Meet at the entrance to Eling Tide Mill, 24, Lexby Road, Totton, SO40 9HD. This is one of the very few working tide mills left in the World, having been sold on by King John in the 1200s; restoration and rebuilding took place through the centuries, with the machinery last done in 1892. Production of flour ceased in 1946 but resumed in 2009 following an injection of funds from New Forest District Council. Site car parking is free; it is a ten-minute walk from Totton station; buses 6 and 8 from Southampton to Lymington or Calshot are somewhat irregular but stop nearby. Admission is £5.75/£7.50.
