Thursday 23rd January 2025 at 11.00am Kate Downie, "Conversations with Joan" The theme of this solo exhibition brings painter-printmaker Kate Downie into conversation with renowned Scottish painter Joan Eardley (1921 -63). Through a suite of new works, Downie creates new ways of seeing Eardley, acknowledging her as an important creative influence and retelling stories of care that carry over time. In her work, Downie has tackled similar themes to Eardley – the urban landscape, coastal terrain – and there is a sense of connection, an understanding in her artistic practice. Drawn to the possibilities left open by Eardley’s ‘Two Children’ (1962–63), found incomplete on the artist’s easel at her death, Downie has created two new paintings: one in which she ‘finished’ the painting in her own way, the other a new major banner painting ‘Dead or Alive’ co-created with local children, incorporating their marks with hers. It reflects her continuing interest in childhood sibling relationships and the role of children, their creative output and the impact upon both Joan Eardley’s art and her own. We aim to make the 3pm tour and visitors need to be there at 2.30pm at the latest so we will meet at 2.15pm. This timing may be subject to change. Experience the most exciting elements of car production in around 90 min: from the so-called ‘Body-in-white’, the body shell, to the finished, personalized MINI. You will visit the state-of-the-art plant and see how thousands of parts come together to produce up to 1,000 MINIs per day. And we look into the future: What will the electromobility of tomorrow look like? Experience the plant up close. Tickets are £21 or £17 if 60 and over. The first part will be visit to the Wolverhampton Art Gallery at 12 noon, followed by New Year’s Lunch at 1pm in Glaze Cafe, which is within this Art Gallery on Ground Floor. Saturday 25th January. 12noon – Handshake event for Region 07 and Region 06 Meet in Becket’s Traditional Tea Rooms, at Peterborough Cathedral for light snack or early lunch prior to exploring the visitor centre and magnificent Norman Cathedral. We hope that both Yorkshire and East of England members will join together for this handshake event. Peterborough is the burial ground for two queens and the scene for many Civil War upheavals. The Yorkshire organiser, Christina Stipetic, and Acting Yorkshire Executive Representative, Jean Hertzog will be there to meet you with a copy of OMEGA on the table. The Cathedral is in walking distance from the railway station with a journey time of approximately one and a half to two hours train travel from the main towns in Yorkshire. We’ll meet back in the café later for either late lunch or afternoon tea to chat about all we’ve seen.
