Annual General Meetings and Social Weekend
These are really sociable get-togethers with the chance to meet members and their friends or families from other areas. Three excursions are arranged along with evening activities.
The choice of venue for these weekends circulates around the Regions and Nations with hotels being selected with good road networks and convenient public transport.
On the Saturday morning the official Annual General Meetings are held as these are required legally to be held each year for all our three limited companies. These are organised under a compound meeting named AGM Part I. This meeting is conducted under the Memorandum and Articles of the Association.
All members are invited to attend this meeting on a self funding basis, and may vote either in person or by postal proxy on any Resolutions presented.
Advanced notice is published in OMEGA in accordance with the legal requirements and all members are invited to submit Resolutions should they wish to change any of existing Memorandum and Articles.
There is also a second part to the AGM known as AGM Part II, This is run under Standing Orders which incorporates reports on previous activities of the Association and Motions to change the working procedures of the Association. All members are invited in advance to submit Procedural Motions and have the right to vote either in person, or by postal proxy, on any of the Motions presented.
2026 Social Weekend and AGM
5th – 7th June 2o26
North Lakes Hotel and Spa, Ullswater Road, Penrith, CA11 8QT
Our Social Weekend is always open to all OU Graduates, OU Students and their friends and families and this year is based at North Lakes Hotel and Spa, Penrith which is in Cumbria. It is very near to major roads and is only a five minute walk from the railway station. It is owned by Theakston Brewery under the same group of hotels as the Aztec Hotel that we used last year in Bristol.
Bedroom prices are higher this year and so at the request of the attendees at last years’ weekend, we have introduce an instalment option for those that wish to use it. The other usual options will also apply. In addition we have offered as slight reduction to those sharing a room with another fee paying attendee.
Also for the first time this year, you are able to make your payments online by credit card.
Regulars will note that we are going a month later this year but once again this is in order to keep the overall pricing down. The weekend begins after lunchtime on Friday 5th June and continues until after lunch on Sunday 7th June.
If you would like to come but what you require does not fit neatly into one of these Options, please contact info@aoug.org.uk to discuss what you would like and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Booking forms were available in the Summer OMEGA, but will be repeated in the winter OMEGA when you will also receive the excursion information.
Please note that as we make a group booking all advanced payments are non refundable and so we recommend that you take out holiday insurance in case you need to make any last minute cancellation.
In addition to the main package, we offer optional excursions during the weekend..
Even if you are not staying at the hotel, you are welcome to book to attend these excursions, if you are able to travel in time.
For more information about any of these excursions please contact the AOUG Office using info@aoug.org.uk or via the message service under Contact on this website.
