Degree Ceremonies

AOUG are honoured to be allowed to send members to every Degree Ceremony to be part of the academic procession. Application forms are usually sent out as an insert in the Winter OMEGA and  you can also apply online by clicking on the form below.

The later Ceremonies will be advertisied in  the body of Spring or Summer OMEGA and here or in Local Newsletters. You will need to choose which venue you would like to volunteer for and in some cases there are more than one ceremony, so you will need to select which date and time suits you. If you wish you can choose a second and third venue, date and time.

The form asks you if you are fit and able to fulfil the duties and this applies to being able to stand for up to fifteen minutes in a foyer or corridor outside the hall and then walk slowly in time with the others in the procession. Some venues have steps up to the stage where the procession members will sit and a few of these do not have handrails by the steps.

For the procession you will wear a gown with hood that represents the highest OU degree that you have achieved. As you are representing AOUG, we only wear gowns relating to the OU so even if you have a higher degree from another university, please just tell us about you OU qualification. The OU also request the year that you gained this qualification so that they can verify your information. The OU will then order you the required gown and so you are asked for your height to get the correct length for you. (This needs to be in feet and inches as that is how the gowns are labelled.) If you have already have an OU gown and hood of your own, you will not need to tell us your height.

Once you have applied, our Chairman will let you know if you have been selected and send you the necessary introductory information and there will be an extra OU form to complete and then nearer the date of the ceremony you will receive all the information you need for the day.

AOUG members wishing more information can contact the AOUG Chairman Derrick Franks using derrick7633@outlook.com

All full Graduate Members of AOUG, whether long standing or very new, are encouraged to volunteer on a self funding basis.
