Barbara Daniels

The AOUG Chancellor Asa Briggs Award for Arts was established in 1992 and Barbara is the 9th recipient of this award.  Mr Gerald Parsons introduced Barbara, she is in the final year of her research into Children's homes in Victorian Britain. The research examines the provision made by the Protestant denominations and by Roman Catholic Church to deal with one of the pressing social problems of the age, that of homelessness and uncared for children. This work is ground breaking because there are no comparative studies of Victorian children's homes  in existence.
