Experience impactful new displays by Louise Bourgeois, Helen Chadwick, and Robert Mapplethorpe, each offering distinctive and diverse approaches to the ideas of self-expression, identity, and the complexity of our inner life. Visitors will encounter Louise Bourgeois’s three-metre-high Spider, innovative light boxes and a playful sculptural installation by Helen Chadwick and striking self-portraits by Robert Mapplethorpe. (Free admission) Surrealism : Picturing the Strange. You will encounter bizarre creatures and weird machines, eerie landscapes and liminal spaces. These uncanny compositions juxtapose the familiar with the peculiar, subverting reality and exploring the potential of the mind. (Free admission).

This 18th Century, Bath-stone house was inspired by Italian Palladian architecture. It was saved and lovingly restored by Lord and Lady Iliffe in the 1950s, who brought Basildon Park back to life, acquiring a collection of fine furnishings and carefully selected Old Masters

The Botanics are organising Palm House Tours to offer a rare, behind the scenes look at this landmark heritage site as we start to reveal the extensive renovations and begin replanting the Living Collection. Thursday 30th April. 11am Meet for coffee at River Café, 5, High Street, Bedford, MK40 1RN before visiting the John Bunyan Museum which is a short distance away (Mill Street, Bedford, MK40 3EU). The museum celebrates the life of the author of The Pilgrim’s Progress and is a free museum.
