Saturday 11th July. 11am Meet in the Helenium Tea Room, Barnsdale Gardens, Barnsdale Avenue, Exton, Oakham, LE15 8AH. Barnsdale Gardens was created by Geoff Hamilton, presenter of BBC Gardeners' World from 1979 until his death in 1996. Geoff presented Gardeners' World from his home in Rutland where he developed the individual garden designs, experimenting with plants, themes and ideas to inspire the nation and earned the reputation of being the ‘People’s Gardener’. Admission adults £16.00, under 18s are free.
Tuesday 16th June. 12noon Meet at the Trattoria Verdi Restaurant, 110, Southampton Row, Holborn WC1B 4BL for an a la carte lunch. Please let the Local Contact know if you are planning to attend so that an appropriate table can be booked.
Saturday 20th June. 10am Meet for coffee in the Old Court Room in at St Albans Museum, Town Hall, St Peter's Street, St Albans, AL1 3DH so we can then head outside at an appropriate time for ‘The Alban Pilgrimage’. The Pilgrimage starts at 11am and works its way through the town before heading towards the Cathedral where there will be a Eucharist at noon for those that would like to attend. Meanwhile from noon until 5pm there will be lots going on in the town. https://www.stalbanscathedral.org/alban-pilgrimage. For those who cannot join us until closer to 11am, we will aim to watch the pilgrimage from close by the museum but if you are joining us after 10.45am please take my mobile number so you can contact me and check where we are standing.
Saturday 20th June. 11am. Meet in the café of the Derby Museum and Art Gallery, The Strand, Derby, DE1 1BS, which is situated in the Ceramics Gallery before wandering the galleries. The special exhibition will be ‘Wright of Derby: From the Shadows’; Joseph Wright produced works of art that explore the use of light and many of his works remain in his hometown. Entrance to the Museum is Free.
Thursday 25th June. 11am This Zoom will take place if there is sufficient interest shown at the April event. However, we do need several local members to get involved for future events to take place. So please do show your support. We need a minimum of three local members to register their interest for this to take place. Please get in touch with the event organiser - Association Chairman
Thursday 25th June. 2pm Meet in the car park of Morrison supermarket Morpeth, Dark Lane, Morpeth, NE61 1HQ, to then visit the Bagpipe Museum
Saturday 13th June. 10.30am Meet in the café of the York Explore Library for coffee before the AOUG in Yorkshire AGM meeting, which will be followed by a short talk by a speaker. Details nearer the time. There are refreshment facilities available for both coffee and lunch within the building. Please note the AGM will start promptly at 11am.
Sunday 28th June. 1.30pm Meet at the car park at 110 Berth, Western Docks, Southampton, SO15 1HJ for an afternoon cruise on board SS. Shieldhall, to the Eastern Solent, with full musical entertainment provided by Southampton Salty Sea Dogs Shanty Crew. SS Shieldhall is the last operational steam ship in the UK and is on the Historic Ships Register. Full refreshments available on board. The fare is £49.00 and may only be booked via www.ss-shieldhall.co.uk. There is no public transport available to the ship's berth, and, as cruise ships will be in port, traffic will be heavy. This event is being organised jointly with the OU Music Society.
