Wednesday 25th February. 11am Meet at the entrance to Titchfield Abbey, Mill Lane, Fareham, PO15 5RA. Dating from the 13th Century, the abbey was home to Premonstratensian canons, who served in the local community. After the dissolution of the monasteries, Henry VIII gave the whole site to Sir Thomas Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton, who transformed it into a Tudor Mansion. Its most impressive feature today is the turreted gatehouse, built across the nave of the church. Entrance is free, but there is a nominal charge for car parking if not a member of English Heritage. Lunch at the Fisherman’s Rest, opposite the Abbey. There is no public bus service.
