Wednesday 25th February 11am, Dovecot Studios, 10, Infirmary Street, EH1 1LT. There are Three Simultaneous Exhibitions. Edinburgh Drawing on Style, Original Fashion Illustration (Café, Entrance Foyer & Shop) Featuring works by artists including Antonio Lopez, Kenneth Paul Block and Steven Stipelman, the exhibition explores how fashion illustrators bridged journalism and fine art at a moment when the illustrated image still rivalled photography. (Free admission) David Remfry In Residence (Tapestry Balcony) Acclaimed artist David Remfry brings his lyrical artistic vision to Edinburgh, featuring 30 evocative paintings, including a sensitive portrait of his friend, Alan Cumming and his first-ever tapestry, created with Dovecot Studios. (Free admission) The Biba Story, 1964–1975 (North Gallery, South Gallery) Explore how fashion phenomenon Biba blossomed to become the world’s first lifestyle label, sparking a revolution in how people shopped and how Biba earned its spot as the brand that epitomises 1960s and 1970s fashion. ( Admission £10.50) Wednesday 25th February. 11am Meet at the entrance to Titchfield Abbey, Mill Lane, Fareham, PO15 5RA. Dating from the 13th Century, the abbey was home to Premonstratensian canons, who served in the local community. After the dissolution of the monasteries, Henry VIII gave the whole site to Sir Thomas Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton, who transformed it into a Tudor Mansion. Its most impressive feature today is the turreted gatehouse, built across the nave of the church. Entrance is free, but there is a nominal charge for car parking if not a member of English Heritage. Lunch at the Fisherman’s Rest, opposite the Abbey. There is no public bus service. |
