  • AOUG Award Ceremony and Foundation Lecture

    The Open University Campus Walton Hall, Milton Keynes

    Friday 2nd October 2026 Join us for a celebration of the work of Open University research students in Room 2 in the Michael Young Building on The Open University campus, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes MK7 6AA. The Award Ceremony will begin at 12noon with the doors opening at 11.30am and recognises the achievements of Phd students, that have been nominated by their Supervisors. There will be displays for each student and about the AOUG Foundation for Education charity. Then following a introduction by the AOUG Chairman, the Supervisors will introduce their student and then the student will receive a framed certificate from the AOUG Chairman and a Welcome Pack about our Association. During the lunch break, when both formal and informal photographs will be taken, and there will be an opportunity to view all the students' displays. Then there will be our Annual Foundation Lecture. This is to be presented this year by Lauren Rose, recipient of the AOUG 2025 John Veysey Bursary, about her research -  'Using Creative Participatory Methods to Explore Children's Physical Activity Experiences Through the Transition into Secondary School''.     Saturday 17th October. 11am Meet in the café of Derby Museum and Art Gallery, The Strand, Derby, DE1 1BS which is situated in the Ceramics Gallery before wandering the galleries. The special exhibition will be ‘Wright of Derby: From the Shadows’; Joseph Wright produced works of art that explore the use of light and many of his works remain in his hometown. Entrance to the Museum is free.

    Saturday 17th October. 11am Meet at ‘Grane café’, 3, Royal Parade, Harrogate, HG1 1HG close to the train station for coffee in this popular North Yorkshire spa town, in which the first mineral spring was discovered in 1571. Then we walk to visit the Mercer Art Gallery which is free to enter and has changing exhibitions. Next to the train station is the Victoria Car Park with a vehicle recognition machine on entry and for those with limited mobility the No 36 red/black double-decker bus Leeds to Ripon can be caught at the bus station, alighting at the Royal Hall stop, then a short walk to the Gallery.
